The goal of this work was evaluate the major effects of rare earth elements insertion (Cerium and Lanthanum) in the structure of hydrotalcite-like compounds as mixed oxides precursors. DRX, FTIR, TG/TDA, SEM, EMP and RAMAN data attested the successful synthesis routine to produce rare earth LDH compounds. Thermal treatment products were quite different on REE LDH. La LDH (Mg7.46Al1.68La0.86 at%) was an effective precursor to MgAlLaO mixed oxide type materials, but CeLDH (Mg7.28Al1.52Ce1.19 at%) in the same thermal conditions produced single oxides (MgO and CeO2).
